Last month, we had the pleasure of designing a modern Asian restaurant for a client from an entirely different part of the world. Without hesitation, we decided to take this short trip around the planet on a quest to break cultural and gastronomical barriers.
Well, at least virtually. And it was pretty fun.
The restaurant is envisioned as a regular Asian eatery where you first pay the bill at the cashier and then move on to the salad bar to choose the ingredients. After that, guests move to the grill where the actual magic happens. It is also worth mentioning that the grill represents the central part of the place. The cashier is somewhat hidden, which is unusual for this type of restaurant because cashiers are usually positioned right at the entrance.
Although based on a somewhat traditional concept, this shows that our client wanted us to make this place look simple, casual and authentic.
After getting the meal, guests can choose the place to sit and enjoy this great exotic meal. There are three types of a sitting arrangement in this restaurant, so guests can choose to sit in a booth, on regular chairs or bar stools.
The most interesting detail of the restaurant is the charming lighting solutions. These colorful, candle-sized pendants are chosen because they represent fire, one of the most significant symbols in Asian culture. Moreover, a lighting system such as this one provides a more intimate ambiance to this busy place.
Besides making the place cozy and comfortable for guests, the restaurant owners requested ample space for their staff. This means that all the elements are designed as open areas so that the staff can move around freely. We believe our final design satisfies the needs of hard-working ladies and gentlemen.
Because of the restaurant’s geometry, our design approach had to be efficient and smart. First, we had to make sure that all walls were painted in bright, subdued colors since the natural light was only available from the entrance. Then we had to choose quality substitutes for natural materials that are easy to maintain. On the other hand, since the ceiling is very high, we decided to paint it black to make this place a bit more tucked in and cozy
