Innovations That Simplify the Creation of Organic Forms in Interiors – Notes from METSTRADE

When the possibilities for executing interiors are limited, the design often becomes a compromise. Innovative materials and advanced technologies open up entirely new opportunities, enabling the realization of ideas that were once nearly impossible.

By keeping up with industry developments and the latest trends, not only can our designs stay true to their initial vision, but the production process also becomes more efficient, reducing the risk of complications and unnecessary costs.

Attending trade shows like METSTRADE in Amsterdam represents an invaluable opportunity for my team and me to experience the latest trends and technologies firsthand.

Although yacht interior designers are not often present at such events, I believe these visits are essential for creating interiors without limits. Every year, we discover innovative solutions, products, systems, and materials that inspire us and allow us to elevate our projects to a higher level.

We also consistently meet new manufacturers and suppliers who surprise us with their capabilities. Here are three exhibitors that gave us fresh ideas for upcoming projects:

1. Adaptability and Durability

Maridur, from OBO-Werke, is a premium plastic with exceptional machining capabilities. It is moisture-resistant and easy to process. Its ability to bend under heat allows for the quick creation of curved and 3D parts, making it ideal for ceiling panels, furniture, and doors. Maridur combines durability and flexibility, providing reliable solutions for high-quality interiors and exteriors.
Here’s an idea showcased at their stand:

2. Organic Forms in Veneer

Danzer 3D-Veneer enables wooden elements to be shaped into complex, organic forms that were previously nearly impossible to create. Its flexibility reduces costs and speeds up production. This innovation allows designs to be realized exactly as envisioned—without compromising on aesthetics or functionality.

3. Custom Metal Details

With Arnold Yachts’ 3D stainless steel printing, it is possible to create unique metal components like handrails, steps, and cladding. The layer-by-layer production process eliminates the need for traditional fabrication methods. This significantly expands the possibilities in yacht interior and exterior design, allowing for the creation of complex, custom elements.

As a designer, I believe that innovations are not enough if the design is not well thought out and aligned with the client’s needs. A complex design alone is not the solution—it is crucial for the space to be functional, comfortable, and aesthetically perfect. A well-executed design must be grounded in the client’s real needs and a carefully developed concept. Once we have a solid project, we can then focus on the quality of execution.

When we combine high-quality design with advanced techniques and materials, the results are truly impressive. Using innovations like 3D-Veneer, 3D metal printing, and Maridur allows us to bring to life ideas that were previously out of reach.
